A rich, bright red, displaying plum, blackberry, boysenberry, leather and spice notes, allied to a dense structure. Built for the long haul, this remains balanced and juicy through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2018 through 2033. 500 cases imported. –BS

Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc. Unglaublich dichtes Purpur mit fast schwarzen Reflexen. Dunkles Röstnoten, viel Kaffee, Lakritze, nussige Konturen und viel Cassis ähnliche Frucht, zu Kopf steigend, aber auch etwas trocken in sich wirkend. Im Gaumen extrem konzentriert, pfeffriges Extrakt. Dann folgen Tannine, Tannine und nochmals Tannine. Er hat eine fast brutale Arroganz in sich und doch eine grosse Klasse. Aus eigener Erfahrung weiss ich, dass ein Solaia immer extrem viel versprechend ist in der Jugend. Dann entwickelt es sich, aber Eines bleibt stehen; die Gerbstoffe. Der Spass wird sich wohl auch nie so richtig einstellen. Die Bewertung ist fast rein auf sein Potential vergeben. Die Investition von fast 200 Franken würde ich mit einer (zu) grosszügigen Risikobereitschaft taxieren. 17/20 2020 – 2032

I’m not fully convinced by the 2011 Solaia. It is a hedonistic and heady expression for sure, but it doesn’t come near the 97 points I awarded the 2010 vintage. In fact, the bouquet here is very ripe with thick tones of strawberry and blackberry folded within tobacco, leather and sweet spice. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc offer flavors of rum cake and candied fruit. There’s a good amount of tannic firmness surrounded by thick extract and fleshiness.

Tignanello, for most, the original Super-Tuscan, was first crafted in 1971 and has since remained a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The 350-hectare estate lies amongst the picturesque hills between the Greve and Pesa River valleys, with 147 hectares of vineyards spread across the Chianti Classico appellation. Tignanello is home to two of the most influential wines ever created. The family’s flagship, Solaia and the first Super-Tuscan, Tignanello. These two iconic wines are marked by Antinori’s signature quality, they are vibrant yet complex and clearly express the presence of their unique terroir.
