The recently concluded tour of Bordeaux’s Châteaux for the 2025 En Primeur campaign allowed the ARVI team to get a close look at a vintage that stands out for its balance, technical precision, and a stylistic profile in line with current market expectations.
Our overall impression is of a vintage characterized by balance, freshness, and full ripeness - extremely focused, approachable, and of solid quality - capable of producing wines that are immediately enjoyable without sacrificing significant ageing potential.

THE CLIMATE AND SEASONAL TRENDS
The 2025 vintage in Bordeaux demonstrates how major wine-growing regions distinguish themselves through their ability to express different characteristics from one year to the next. Following a complex 2024, the spring of 2025 unfolded under markedly different conditions, with significantly lower pest pressure and a much more favorable climate for winegrowers.
One of the vintage’s main characteristics was its great precocity, already evident at budbreak but confirmed above all during flowering. The summer continued on a favorable note, marked by two heat waves: the first in July, the second in early August, immediately after veraison. From a phenological standpoint, the growing cycle proceeded normally, initially suggesting a profile typical of hot vintages.
However, the rains in late August and early September had a decisive impact, altering the composition of the grapes and refining the final style of the wines. The result is wines with lower alcohol content than initially expected, but with very well-developed phenolic ripeness.
The red wines display intense color, well-preserved acidity, and remarkable freshness, offering a balanced and rather classic profile. The dry whites are particularly impressive, having retained their tension and aromatic potential despite the high summer temperatures. Finally, the sweet wines, produced in limited quantities — as was the case with the entire 2025 Bordeaux harvest — achieve very high levels of quality.
KEY FEATURES OF THE VINTAGE
The climatic conditions of the 2025 vintage are clearly reflected in the style of the wines and define their key characteristics:
These elements are complemented by a fundamental human and technical factor: a deep understanding of viticultural practices and their increasingly precise application, combined with modern, technologically advanced wineries, have allowed to add a further level of quality to the vintage, enhancing every nuance.
WINE STYLE AND POTENTIAL
The 2025 vintage wines perfectly meet the current demand for wines that are more approachable in their youth, thanks to well-defined aromatic profiles, ripe tannins, and a well-integrated structure. At the same time, the oenological characteristics — freshness, balance, and the quality of the grapes — indicate a potential for ageing and development that is by no means negligible.
The most prestigious terroirs express themselves with clarity, distinguishing historic big names such as:
There are also more contemporary and cutting-edge estates such as:
SECOND WINES: A PARTICULARLY SUCCESSFUL YEAR
One aspect worth mentioning specifically is the quality of the second wines, which in 2025 are particularly “gourmand,” expressive, and ready to drink.
Notable examples include:
These wines are an excellent introduction to the vintage, offering a truly appealing balance of quality and enjoyment.
LEFT BANK: THE ROLE OF CABERNET SAUVIGNON
In 2025, Cabernet Sauvignon impressed us more than Merlot. In multiple tastings, Cabernet proved superior in terms of precision, depth, and definition, with clear examples such as Château Mouton Rothschild (98% Cabernet Sauvignon) and Château Margaux (89% Cabernet Sauvignon).
This result is linked to the perfect ripeness achieved by a blend that requires a longer growing season and that fully benefited from the vintage’s climatic conditions. The wines display an intense and deep color, with very interesting phenolic ripeness, enhanced by a high skin-to-juice ratio and small-sized berries.
RIGHT BANK: ITS BEST EXPRESSIONS
On the right bank, the wines that impressed us most for their balance and character were:
Wines that combine finesse, aromatic precision, and structure, offering a compelling expression of the vintage in the terroirs of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol.
WHITE WINES
The white wines also demonstrate a high level of quality. They are well-structured, with full and well-managed ripeness. The harvests took place before the rains, promoting concentration and aromatic definition, despite reduced yields (about 20–30% less).
Among the most notable wines, we highlight:
New arrival: a white wine from Château Léoville Las Cases, the result of the vision of the new generation of the Delon family, who are now involved in managing the estate. Its blend, which includes Marsanne and Roussanne, complements the classic Bordeaux grapes, creating an aromatic white wine.
SUMMING UP
The 2025 vintage proves to be one of great consistency and clarity, offering balanced, expressive wines that are already enjoyable without sacrificing structure or aging potential. It is a vintage that rewards meticulous viticultural practices, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the winemakers’ ability to interpret the terroir with restraint and sensitivity.
For ARVI, it represents a solid and highly recommended vintage, with many interesting opportunities among both the top labels and the second wines, as well as some particularly successful contemporary interpretations.
