There have been generations of owners since this estate was founded in the early 17th century by Gabriel de Vigneau. The most famous was probably the Pontac family, whose name is inseparable from the creation of great Bordeaux wines. They acquired the property in 1834. Albert de Pontac, great-nephew of Madame de Rayne, née Catherine de Pontac, named the château Rayne Vigneau. It was during his family's ownership that the estate was included among the first growths in the famous 1855 Classification. Château Rayne Vigneau is a unique and rare wine. According to legend, their soils contain gemstones that account for its incredible golden hue.
