The 2016 Bellefont Belcier is blended of 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged for 20 months in 80% new and 20% in one-year-old barrels. Michel Rolland consults for this wine. Deep garnet-purple in color, it gives delicate dried flowers, garrigue, dusty soil and smoked meats over warm black plums and blackberry preserves with hints menthol. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated and muscular with a rock-solid structure and loads of layered black fruit in the mid-palate, with a lingering earthiness to the finish. 5,000 cases produced.

Château Bellefont Belcier
One of the lesser known estates in Saint-Émilion, Bellefont-Belcier takes its name from its 17th century owner, Louis-François de Belcier. Today, it is owned by three associates, including Dominque Hébrard, the former owner and winemaker of Cheval Blanc before it was sold to LVMH. Despite being less known, its vineyards are incredibly well-placed on Saint-Émilion’s famous plateau, and they can claim Larcis-Ducasse, Tertre Roteboeuf, Troplong Mondot and La Mondotte as adjacent neighbors. In 2006, the château was promoted to Grand Cru Classé. With Michel Rolland as consulting oenologist, their wines tend to be modern in style with a fruit focused core and ageing in 80% new French oak casks.
