It is a powerful, juicy Merlot loaded with fruit, but there is also more than enough structure to provide support. Dark notes of tar, incense and smoke add complexity on the finish. Generally I prefer Redigaffi between ages 5 and 15. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This is another fabulous set of wines from Tua Rita, with the exception of the Syrah, which falls a bit short of its customary level. To be honest, these days I am increasingly drawn to the entry and mid-level wines at Tua Rita because of their very favorable pricing and overall value. The biggest news at Tua Rita is the return of original consulting oenologist Luca D’Attoma, who oversaw much of the planting and made the first vintages. 93 Wine SpectatorVery oaky, with clove, vanilla, cedar and sandalwood overlaying black cherry and raspberry flavors. There's a bit too much oak now, and this adds to the tannins, but there's intensity too. Needs time. Merlot. Best from 2014 through 2023. 710 cases made. –BS Producer Azienda Agricola Tua RitaThe demure Tua Rita estate is located in Suvereto, a quaint medieval town found between Livorno and Grosseto. In 1984, Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisti purchased 6-hectares in southern Tuscany. They immediately planted the land to international varieties – Cabernet and Merlot. The property is now over 25-hectares, and ranks amongst the most consistent producers in Tuscany. Its first vintage was released in 1992, and this was just the start of their worldwide praise and accolades from wine connoisseurs and critics. Tua Rita’s exceptional quality and tiny nature earned it the reputation as one of Italy’s first Garagistes. A term used to describe small Bordeaux producers like Le Pin and Valandraud. Their Redigaffi Merlot has now achieved cult-like status. It was also the first Italian wine to receive a perfect score of 100-points from Robert Parker for its 2000 vintage. Tua Rita’s exciting assortment of reds and whites have almost single-handedly put this bright new zone on Italy’s winemaking map.
