Looks like liquid caramel coming out of the bottle when poured. It's full-bodied, thick and very sweet, with butterscotch, toffee, honey and caramel aromas and flavors. One of the world's great dessert wines. Will age for a long time to come. Drink now through 2020. 265 cases made. –JS100 Wine SpectatorAbsolutely amazing. Their Montepulciano estate is their largest with 8 different vineyards that have different soils and micro-climates. As they have 200 hectares across multiple zones, they have been able to plant numerous grape varieties with good success – including Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. All grapes have been farmed organically since 2011 and they will receive official certification in 2015. Since 1988, they have been in partnership with Capannelle, a top Chianti producer from Gaiole, to produce the wine 50 & 50 together. Avignonesi provides their top Merlot while Capannelle adds 50% to the blend from a lot of their best Sangiovese. The historic collaboration began following an extraordinary harvest. The incredibly high quality encouraged the belief that their partnership could result is something exceptional.
