The 2012 Were Dreams (in a screw cap closure) is a delightful Northern Italian Chardonnay with a great sense of heft and structure to hold it in place. The wine shows a medium rich golden appearance with lively aromas of peach cobbler, baked apple, vanilla bean and exotic fruit. Although the wine boasts good structure, the finish in this vintage is shorter compared to past editions. It ages for 11 months in French oak. According to my submission form, the wine is an assembly of 97% Chardonnay and 3% "top secret." My guess is that the mysterious blending element is an aromatic variety.
Producer
Jermann Silvio
Heir of a traditional Friulian winery, Silvio Jermann is the man behind Italy’s booming new movement, an era of innovative white vinification. Founded by his great-grandfather, Anton, in the late 1880s, when Silvio came along, he was the first to introduce stainless steel vats in all of Italy. His vision of clean, chiseled, vibrant wines has been and continues to be achieved day in and day out. His extraordinary, multi-layered, extract-loaded whites have become reference points in modern viniculture. Today, the estate stretches over 130 hectares in the mountainous Friuli-Venezia Fiulia region, and consists of two wineries, Villanova and Ruttars. The Jermann brand produces a wide range of reds and whites - each expressing the very essence of their varietal character with precision and class.
