Frankreich, oft als „Heiliger Gral” der Weinliebhaber und -sammler bezeichnet, ist die Heimat der erlesensten Weine der Welt. Aus über 850.000 Hektar Weinbergen und über 300 Appellationen erzeugt das Land zwischen 7 und 8 Milliarden Flaschen Wein, womit es mengenmäßig einer der beiden Spitzenweinerzeuger ist (der erste Platz geht je nach Jahr abwechselnd an Frankreich oder Italien). Einer seiner großen Vorteile ist die Vielfalt an Weinen, die hier produziert werden können. Von frischem, in kühlem Klima gedeihendem Champagner zu feinsinnig-ätherischen Pinot Noirs und Chardonnays aus Burgund, von aristokratischem Bordeaux zu kräftigen südfranzösischen Verschnitten kommt jeder Gaumen auf seine Kosten.
